What Does The Bible Say About Caring For Animals

What Does The Bible Say About Caring For Animals December 10, 2014

Pets are popular, without a doubt. Many families, including newly married couples, opt to accept some type of animal and consider it family. This includes dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, birds, and even tinier creatures like hermit crabs. For some reason, we love to take animals. Personally, I have had a cat since I was 11 or 12 (currently I am 23). They become a function of your family, so much and so that when they die a grieving process comes with it. The Bible doesn't specifically talk about having a pet or caring for sure animals, but there are some principles and a few verses that certainly shed some light on how we are to care for animals. After all, they are a part of God's creation—so we're evidently not supposed to mistreat them! Then, what does the bible say near caring for animals?

God Created

In the book of Genesis, it's told that God created human being and woman, along with all of creation, including animals. After doing and so, God spoke to man and gave him a control in Genesis one:28, "Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; make full the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." This dominion does not mean that we can practise whatever nosotros want with the animals, nonetheless. We are to care for them every bit a part of God's creation. Information technology would be irresponsible for whatever Christian to harm or mistreat an animate being, since God created them and gave them into our hands.

God is the Great Caretaker

Information technology is besides said in the book of Genesis that man (and woman) is made in God'due south image. In other words, we share some characteristics that he has, yet on a lesser scale. Information technology is possible that this includes the love for animals and the ability to treat them. For instance, Psalm 147:9 says "He gives to the fauna its food, And to the young ravens that cry." Information technology is certainly clear that God cares for his creation—including all of the animals! It is this same attitude towards animals that all of u.s. should accept if nosotros are to properly represent God.

Personal Life

Information technology's my own personal opinion that the way a person treats their creature, or another person'south, speaks volumes as to their personal integrity. Now, this does not mean those who dislike animals are morally repugnant. Rather, what I practice mean is that those people who mistreat their animals through abandonment, intentionally pain them, or neglect have some serious moral bug. In fact, the Bible hints at this in the book of Proverbs, likewise. And, information technology's the simply poesy that I have come beyond that may be the most applicable to taking care of pets. Proverbs 12:10 proclaims: "A righteous man regards the life of his animal, just the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel." It really doesn't go much clearer than that! A person that is truly godly and righteous volition take good intendance of his animal, just as God would. In render, animals can ofttimes take intendance of us, as well, though certainly in different means. Too service dogs, many animals tin be used for companionship, protection, and even support mental health, which is why some animals are taken to hospitals and nursing homes. They are certainly adept at comforting people in demand!

What Does The Bible Say About Animals

Determination

Animals are amazing creatures and part of everything that God created. As such, they should be treated with diligent care and never harmed by their owners. It's sickening to think that there are people who use animals to fight for profit (such every bit the Michael Vick case a few years back), and others that leave their animals on the side of the road when they cannot beget them anymore. Such actions are never condoned by the Bible. In fact, the Bible would suggest the very opposite handling! Every bit a person with experience owning a pet, I can adjure to the fact that, if treated well, pets and animals alike tin provide comfort, joy, amusement, and a host of other things. Those animals that cannot exist pets, such equally sharks, should even so be treated well and never intentionally harmed for the fun of it. God gave the animals into our hands, we should make Him proud by caring for them diligently.
